Ombudsman's Activities | 23.12.2016 Visit to NGO "Zajedno" Banja Luka Visit to NGO "Zajedno" On 23 December 2016 at the invitation of the NGO "Zajedno" the representatives of the Ombudsman visited the premises of this NGO and to get familiar with the work of the Day Care Centre "Zajedno" which was established with the support of the city of Banja Luka / PI Social Welfare Center Banja Luka in 2007. The Day Care Center is a socio-educational workshop, designed for persons with mental health issues. The activities provided for the beneficiaries relate to educational and psychological workshops, occupational workshops, entertainment and music workshops, social and therapeutic workshops and other activities including trips, visits to cultural events and the like. What is also very important is the fact that the NGO offers educational and psychological workshops and programs for strengthening family bonds of the beneficiaries. This NGO currently has some 60 users mainly the persons with severe mental disorders. On this occasion, they discussed the development of the Platform for deinstitutionalization "Support inclusion for persons with disabilities in Bosnia and Herzegovina", held in Sarajevo, which was supported by representatives of Ombudsman. Director of this NGO said on the occasion that de-institutionalization is a human right and it is a trend in the world that creates an obligation to the state and society to ensure the protection of the rights of persons with mental disabilities through providing them with support in their natural environment. The platform is the basis for the development of a strategy to be used for amending the relavant legislation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Involvement of the Ombudsman’s representatives in a project titled “Self-Representatives Club” organized by this NGO with the main goal to educate the beneficieries about their rights was also discussed.
