Ombudsman under Pressure - Political, Democratic, Constitutional Restrictions and Restrictive Financial Conditions in Our Neighboring Countries" held on June 22 this year in Vienna.

The organizers of the meeting are the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe (IDM), the International Institute of Ombudsman (IOI) and the Austrian Ombudsman Committee (AOB).

Due to international events and trends such as the financial and economic crisis since 2008, current global terrorist attacks, as well as mostly negatively conned refugee and migration flows in Europe, the Ombudsman Institutions are faced with problematic financial and political constraints on the protection of basic human rights.

Within the panel discussion participants will consider the conditions, challenges and future prospects that ombudsmen face in the Danube Region. To what extent can they serve as "a guarantee and proof of the existence of a political system that respects the rule of law and basic human rights"?

Ombudsman, Dr Jasminka Džumhur, will address the participants in the panel entitled "Historical Dimensions, Institutional Conditions and Socio-Political Challenges of Human Rights".
