Ombudsman's Activities | 22.11.2017 Ombudsperson Jasminka Džumhur, PhD, attends a conference on the occasion of the International Day of the Child Children, Illustration Ombudsperson of Bosnia and Herzegovina Jasminka Džumhur, PhD, participated in a press conference organized under the "Children Take Over 2017" campaign on the occasion of marking the 20th International Children's Day on 20 November. The conference was organized by UNICEF in cooperation with the Council for Children of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Human Rights Ombudsman of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo on 20 November 2017. This year's theme of the International Day of the Child, according to UNICEF, was the prohibition of the physical punishment of children in order to remind and sensitize the public about the need to protect children and juveniles from abuse, violence and various forms of discrimination. Ombudsperson Jasminka Džumhur, PhD, mentioned on this occasion that the institution of the Ombudsman rarely receives complaints from children and that complaints are usually submitted by parents or teachers. She stressed that children should be encouraged to report violations of their rights because their complaints are of great importance, adding that she hopes that such activities will reach more children. In the further course of the conference, the UNICEF's global action in cooperation with children and adolescents, with the participation of numerous partners, media, celebrities and officials was discussed. Special guests were children - young reporters and activists who asked questions related to children in Bosnia and Herzegovina and around the world. One of the key messages that children – young reporters and young activists have sent on that occasion is that 20 November - The International Day of the Child should become a “Day for Children, from Children” worldwide.
