Press statement | 21.05.2018 "Special Report on the Status of the Rights of Persons with Intellectual and Mental Disorders in Bosnia and Herzegovina" presented The Ombudsmen of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the status of rights of persons with intellectual and mental disabilities in Bosnia and Herzegovina - presentation Today, in the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ombudsman dr. Jasminka Džumhur and Nives Jukić presented the "Special Report on the Status of Persons with Intellectual and Mental Disabilities in Bosnia and Herzegovina". The Ombudsmen of Bosnia and Herzegovina prepared a report with the support of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the purpose of this report is to provide an understanding of the problems and issues related to the situation of persons with intellectual and mental disabilities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and contribute to the overall improvement of the implementation of human rights and freedom in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The report, on the basis of the findings of the survey, identifies the key directions for institutional action in order to eliminate the identified weaknesses in this area. The need to make this report is reinforced by the fact that in 2009 the Ombudsmen of Bosnia and Herzegovina prepared a Special Report on the situation in institutions for the care of persons with mental disabilities in BiH. The above-mentioned special report has been the reference document in the past few years for institutions where people with intellectual and mental disabilities are located, but also for other competent authorities for undertaking measures aimed at improving the position of this category of citizens. Thanks to the new Special Report, the possibility has been created to further check the degree of implementation of the Ombudsman's recommendations issued to the competent authorities in the previous Report.
