Ombudsman dr. Jasminka Džumhur participant in the inter-professional two-day seminar on hate speech prevention

Ombudsman of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dr. Jasminka Džumhur is participating on Thursday, June 10, 2021 in Sarajevo in an inter-professional two-day seminar on "The role of media and journalists in the prevention and reduction of hate speech in media content and the impact of hate speech on public opinion", in which she will address participants: "Hate speech and international human rights standards."

The seminar is implemented within the project of the Council of Europe - Freedom of Expression and Freedom of the Media in Bosnia and Herzegovina (JUFREX) and is intended for media professionals and representatives of judicial institutions.

The objectives of the seminar are to identify the most common sources of hate speech in media content and positive examples of hate speech prevention, to analyze current cases of media reporting in BiH and the world marked by hate speech and their impact on the public, to analyze legal provisions related to hate speech, to consider possibilities-initiatives for amendments to existing laws in BiH, i.e., adoption of a special law on the prohibition of hate speech at the entity / state level and adoption of recommendations aimed at improving professional and ethical standards and obligations of journalists / media in creating media content, and institutional prevention and sanctioning of hate speech.
