Ombudsman's Activities | 24.02.2021 Continued and Strengthened Cooperation between Ombudspersons of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ombudsman for Children of Republika Srpska Continuation and strengthening of cooperation between the Ombudsman of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ombudsman for Children of the Republika Srpska Ombudspersons of Bosnia and Herzegovina Professor Ljubinko Mitrović, Dr Jasminka Džumhur (online participation) and Nives Jukić (online participation) held a meeting with Dragica Radović, Ombudsman for Children of Republika Srpska on Wednesday, 24 February 2021, where they discussed a number of issues concerning the exercise of children's rights and their protection, thus building on the successful cooperation between the two institutions. Different aspects of protection of children's rights and the issues of cooperation falling within the competence and scope of work of the two institutions, particularly in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, were the topics discussed in the meeting. Current topics, such as the issue of vaccination of our citizens, were discussed, but also specific planned future activities of the institutions. Particular importance was given to citizens that had addressed both the ombudspersons of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ombudsman for Children of Republika Srpska, and it was concluded that the institutions would continue cooperating in the future with a view to protecting children’s rights and interests. Joint future cooperation was also discussed, especially concerning new legal solutions to improve children’s protection – e.g. amendments to family proceedings laws, establishment of child maintenance funds, clear definition of the valedictorian selection criteria for primary and secondary schools, etc. As concluded during the meeting, joint actions need to be planned in the future in individual cases but also in cases which involve resolving systemic issues and advocating for new legal solutions in the best interest of the child. While they assessed today's meeting as very useful, the ombudspersons agreed on the need to act jointly on certain issues concerning the exercise of children's rights, including issuance of joint recommendations.
